REGIONAL DATA EXCHANGE SYSTEM (RDES)

Overview

RDES is a user-friendly and interactive web-based system for uploading, storing and downloading/viewing statistical data files in various electronic formats. Currently, the system accepts the following formats, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat PDF. The format of the files on the RDES are depend on the type of source. Statistical data should be uploaded by MS-Excel format. And the other document, such as annual report, should be Acrobat PDF format, Ms-Word format, etc.

The opening page of the RDES for the selected country (left side) shows a list to link the Country page, and the centre of the Country page has the entrance to database of each country. It has the description of statistical data files available in the database. If there is no item on the list, the database is probably empty. The listing shows the following fields and their explanation:

  • Description -  gives the type of statistical data in the file.

  • Period covered ・nbsp; could be on the basis of calendar year, e.g. 2002 (Calendar Year; 1 Jan. to 31 Dec.).

  • Date uploaded ・gives date and time the data file is uploaded into the system.

  • File Name ・the name assigned to the data file.

  • Standardization for the RDES is here.

How to download or view the data files?

The last column in the right-hand side of the table shows a clickable link to View/Download・

By clicking on the link, a popup window, such as the one below, would appear. (In some versions of Internet Explorer or in browsers other than Internet Explorer, the result may be different, i.e. the link may automatically download or view the data file.)  The popup window allows the user to either download the data file to the local machine or immediately view the file on the browser.  To view the file, it is necessary to have the corresponding software.  For example, if the data file is an Adobe Acrobat PDF format, the local machine should have the Adobe Acrobat Reader.

How to sort the list?

Sorting may not be necessary when there are few data files in the system. As database builds up, sorting could facilitate in searching the desired data files. The labels Description・ Period Covered and Date Uploaded are clickable links. By clicking on these labels, the list is automatically sorted either alphabetically or numerically.

How to return to the country home page?

On the upper left-hand side of the table, a link called back to Country Page is provided. Click on this link to return to the country home page. You may also use the browser back arrow push button on the top menu bar to do the same.

Page access statistics

To keep tract on the number of visits to the RDES country page, a  page counter is provided on the upper left-hand side of the table, just below the back to Country Page link.
